I’ve been buying this type of boot for many years and have tried almost every brand out there. In my experience, most “country-style” boots are more about looks than performance and often aren’t worth the money.
I bought the Aigle Inverss GTX without high expectations, but I’ve been genuinely impressed. They’re very comfortable, and the sizing is reliable. I’m a size 11, and as many will know, boot sizing can be all over the place so that consistency is a big plus.
My job is quite demanding on footwear. My boots are frequently wet (multiple times a day and not just water), which quickly exposes weaknesses in cheaper leather, poor waterproof linings, or weak stitching around the welt. They also have to withstand a fair amount of abuse from curious critters.
This is my 3rd or 4th pair of these boots. That might sound like a lot, but in comparison, most lesser boots last me around 3 months before they start leaking, splitting, or falling apart. With these, I’d typically expect at least 6 months of solid use before even thinking about looking at these, which is exceptional at this price point. My best pair of these lasted nearly 9 months outperforming many more expensive alternatives.
That said, my most recent pair hasn’t been quite as good. The insoles feel slightly loose, and the overall build quality doesn’t seem as precise as usual. I also suspected a possible leak, although due to now being sabotaged by something, I can’t say for certain whether the waterproofing was at fault. The leather also doesn’t feel quite as robust as previous pairs though as they now have a hole in them (this has never happened in the first 6 months before), to be fair, leather is a natural material and some variation is to be expected.
Despite this, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again. I’m willing to treat this as a one-off. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better boot in this price range at the moment.
It’s worth noting that I’m an extreme user, I wear these boots all day, every day, and put them through conditions most people won’t. I don’t expect any boot to last a full year under that level of use. If you’re looking for something for dog walking or weekend use traipsing around the countryside and you take a bit more care than I do these should last you a long time.
